Lenfest Plaza Groundbreaking…
A Masterpiece in One Brushstroke!
On February 2, 2011, the groundbreaking ceremony for Lenfest Plaza was held in the Samuel M.V. Hamilton Building. Guests included Marguerite and H. F. (Gerry) Lenfest; Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter; City Councilman Darrell Clarke; State Representative Dwight Evans; Donald R, Caldwell, PAFA Board Chairman; and David R. Brigham, PAFA President and CEO.

Dignitaries delivered their remarks against a backdrop of painted shovels created by PAFA students mounted on a construction fence. At the program’s conclusion students went on stage with 6 ft paint brushes for dignitaries and the audience to paint their master stroke on a 12’ x 16’ canvas, which will be on display at PAFA.

Protest in WI - Dad had a poor week

Jenni's job situation is in jeopardy and the National news picked up the story. She does not want to give up all her bargaining power. The increase in health & pension cost is not the problem if they would increase her salary but to give up everything to get nothing back.
Dad had a bad week he decided to stop taking his Lasix medication so his leg swelled up, the scabs on his head became infected and Carl checked on Dad finding he had a temperature. Dad always ask for Advil (Ibuprofen) but HE CAN NOT TAKE IT because he is on COUMADIN- he has Tylenol at the apartment. I will be following him this weekend because Carl is visiting Liz for the weekend.

IBM vs MAN

Here comes the computer... on February 14th through the 16th Watson the IBM computer will be playing two of Jeopardy's best contestants for a match MAN against the MACHINE! This will be the first time a computer will play, it is unbelievable to realize that the programming is to a level on pare with a human. It is truly frigtening to watch a machine answering questions... a person has 3 seconds to hear the question, hit the buzzer and answer correctly so to see a machine do that is like a man landing on the moon! I hope people watch. This clip is a practice match.

Brian's School

Brian brought this News cast to my attention. PAFA, his school is doing some re-purposing of the school spaces. They are adding a cafe and closing off a space immediately outside the school as an extended outdoor lounge area with a sculpture as it's center piece. The very large sculpture is of a paint brush with a blob of paint and I look forward to it's completion. The shovels mentioned in the piece included one done by Brian- it is difficult to see but he was delighted to add his artistic flare to the project!

Egypt Erupts!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The last time I saw a Country erupt was Tiananmen Square unfortunately the change came to China at a different rate… I started this Blog several days ago and since I began the riots in Egypt have turned very violent. The march started out all “hearts and flowers” – a group of people PEACEFULLY demonstrating they wanted change in their country. Now on the 6th day the people of Egypt are calling for the head of their country to step down after 30 years, he has been a greedy dictator and he must step down. Tomorrow, Friday the people are calling for a ‘day on reckoning” - Hosni Mubarak must resign!
