I was talking with Dad (Grand-dad at dinner) about the depression... how it seemed to affect Mom (Grammy) so much more than Dad. He said that the boot-legging did help. Grandpa Crouse was willing to try many different things. He was a house painter, he did many of the local schools and he bought the Funeral Home then renovated it into a women's boarding house. Also it seems that the bank was going to foreclose on 133 East so they sold the back lot for $5,000 and at that time that was a lot of money.
I was also told they first lived where the Red Cross Headquarter is located on East 3rd St. and if I remember right...Gary lived in the same building in college before it became the Red Cross Headquarter.
